I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Of course, myself and a few others only knew him only as Ole at Pao's Donut shop every weekend. We enjoyed the stories about his war service years as well as his opinions on the sports news. He always had nice things to say about his family. Although he tried to negate it, we could tell he was a very giving person. We will miss his smile, laughter and good company at our weekend meetings.

As a baseball catcher in the mid 1970's I had the pleasure of meeting umpire James Kimo OleOle. Kimo was the fastest umpire I ever saw in my life. When the umpire staff was shorthanded, he would work behind the plate, and the infield. He would out run the players to any base, and make a good call. He loved umpiring. He gave me tips between innings, I still remember them. As a person, Kimo always had a positive attitude, a shiny glimmer in his eyes, and a smile. Our families became close friends through many different relationships, it's a small world. Kimo knew so many people, we run into people that know Kimo at the local fitness center, shopping, or just about anywhere. Even though we will all miss Kimo, we know he is starting his forever journey with those that have left us before. Kimo’s pains are washed away. He experiences, and enjoys the wonderfulness we on earth have problems comprehending. The fog in thought lifted away, flawless vision restored, youth in spirit absorbed, Kimo is home where he belongs. The Riley’s

With a heavy heart and tears in my eyes I write this
I am a graduate of Orting High School class of '79. Mr. Oleole was a referee for MANY of my and my 2 older bothers (Al '73, Rob '76) basketball games...I always loved coming out of the locker room and seeing Mr. Oleole standing there with the ball under his arm..He was always so cheerful and helping us with the rules and NEVER demeaned us or made us feel bad.
I recall how he would make a traveling call...went something like this...."NO NO NO, I see you move your foot, (as he points to my foot) You cant fool me" and then do the traveling sign and shuffle of giggling or with a huge smile on his face...and then on a free throw or time stoppage would come up and explain his call, pretty cool...most respected Referee for sure...
He was a very fair ref and a great man..I remember him coming up to me after games and chatting, giving advise and such..he didnt need to do that, but glad he did as I learned alot from him...A season NEVER goes by in our family without a good Jim Oleole story, as we have many... I for one will NEVER forget Mr. Oleole. And I know I can speak for the rest of my family..My Dad LOVED him....
