Obituary of William J. Stevens
William J. "Bill" Stevens
Born 9-8-26 in Butte, MT, passed away on 3-4-14 in Kirkland, WA. Lakewood resident for 38 years. Enlisted in US Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Taylor in WWII. Trained deep sea diver and welder. Later served on submarines, including the Sea Devil, Blueback, Pomfret, and Pomodon. Retired in 1971 at the rank of ENCS in San Diego, CA. Took up second career as a stationary engineer for Boeing Corp., and fully retired in 1991. Married Doris Marie Hebert in Tacoma in 1951 and remained devoted husband until her passing from Parkinson's in 2007. Survived by son Jim Stevens, daughter-in-law Laura, grandchildren Joel and Ronni Stevens, as well as two sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, followed by memorial mass at 11 a.m. at Visitation Church, 3314 S 58th St, Tacoma, WA 98409, with reception immediately following at parish hall.
