Obituary of Dorothy Evelyn Godfrey

Dorothy Godfrey (Sarrazen) died after a brief illness on October 15, 2013. She was born in Tacoma on January 28, 1921. At 92 years she was the last survivor in her family of her generation, being preceded in death by her husband, Walter, son Ronald, eight siblings, four brothers-in-law, and their spouses. Dorothy was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School. On August 31, 1940 she married her soul mate, Walter Godfrey. They were married for 60 years, until his death in 2001. They had four children; Marilyn (Philip) Johansen, Ronald Godfrey, Carolyn Wells, and Donald (Janet) Godfrey. In 1946 they moved to their farm on Collins Road. Dorothy was active in Collins School PTA and Girl Scouts. She spent summer vacations fishing and clam digging. Dorothy loved to ballroom dance, play cards, bowl, and watch all sports. Dorothy was a member of the Lakewood Moose, Eagles and Elks fraternal organizations. In 2009 Dorothy moved from the farm to Silver Creek Retirement Community. She lived independently and enjoyed playing Bingo and pinochle. She will miss all her Silver Creek friends. She leaves four grandchildren, Eric Wells, Morgan Wells, Gretchen Henry and Christine Godfrey; six great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and a namesake cousin, Dorothea. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held 2 pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at Silver Creek Retirement Community, 17607 91st Ave E, Puyallup, WA 98375.
