Hafa Adai from Guam - who missed another typhoon this week,
The last Sarrazen of my mother's generation passed this last week, my Aunt Dorothy. She was active & intelligible until the end. I remember as a child staying with her family a couple of summers to attend Vacation Bible School. To me it was a great time. Never having any sisters or brothers, this was the closest I'd ever experience. We ran through their woods, climbed the old stump to pick huckleberries, carved bars of Ivory soap into crosses, strung Popsicle sticks into 10 Commandment hangers. It was a time to remember and Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Walt were there everyday when we came home - it was "family."
I'm attaching a few photos covering her 92 years as best I know them.
Uncle Walt and Aunt Dorothy will always conger up feelings of a family enjoying and sharing one another's company - Fishing at Westport, camping at Camp Cleveland, filling the barn with hay for the winter, oystering on Hood's Canal, carnieing at the Puyallup fair, playing cards in the dinning room, partying at the Eagles, Sportsman's, VFW clubs or just sitting around the table deciding who would get the extra steak. Aunt Dorothy could always be counted on to be home while the children were growing up, but she and Uncle Walt really enjoyed traveling together once the nest was empty.
My circumstances have keep me away from the mainland U.S. for years, and as with any extended separation WE grow older while those we're away from, in our minds, remain frozen in time.
Love to all,
Joe, Tess & Sophia

I have wonderful memories of visiting the cousins at the farm. It was interesting that, as a kid, I thought they lived way out in the middle of nowhere; ironic that it was just outside of Tacoma. Mom (Dot King) would load us up and we'd head over for a visit. I was a snot-nosed little cousin I expect; but the four siblings always treated us great. And Walt and Dorothy were awesome! Lost touch for many years, so it was really nice to reconnect with Dorothy over the last few years. We brought my mom (Dot King; who was named after Dorothy) over a few times so the two cousins could visit. Dorothy was truly a wonderful person.

During my grade school years (late 1950's-60's) the Godfrey "clan" would come to Grayland and camp and clam dig. I was too little to dig and so they taught me to clean clams. I remember many special times playing at Camp Cleveland Campground with all the Godfrey kids. Aunt Dorothy always seemed so "laid back" especially compared to her big sister (my grandma Marie Vollendroff) Grandma Marie loved her sister Dorothy and my mom Joan Brouwer Lillegard Rasanen loved her cousins. Our lives were richer for Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Walt joining us. Thanks for the memories. She has left a great family legacy.

Dorothy was a very special lady. When I visited with her niece, Michele, she always made me feel so at home. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
