Obituary of Dorothy Ann Pollen

Dorothy A. Pollen died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012. Born February 5, 1921 in Tacoma, WA, the daughter of Anna and Charles Piroh and brother of Carl Piroh, she was a proud member of the Slovak Community. Her parents and grandparents had helped to build St Joseph's Slovak Catholic Church in 1911, and she was happy to be one of the oldest members who celebrated the Church's 100th anniversary in 2011. Dorothy married Robert Pollen on August 5, 1939 in Ketchikan, Alaska. They later returned to Tacoma and Robert found work with the phone company. Dorothy worked at Mobile Oil, but she was also an avid sportswoman-- a championship bowler at regional and state tournaments, and later a champion golfer on Tacoma's fairways. She is survived by her Goddaughter Linda Owens of Las Vegas, NV, and many cousins and friends. A special thanks to Dorothy's friend and caregiver, Mrs. Evelyn Gower. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on April 12, 2012, with a Rosary preceding the services at 10:30 a.m. Remembrances in Dorothy's name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 608 S. 34th St., Tacoma, WA 98409.
