Obituary of Charlotte Darcie Barry

Charlotte Darcia Barry - "Char" February 28, 1969 - April 5, 2009 Charlotte "Char" Barry was born February 28, 1969 in Tacoma, WA to the late A.D. "Al" Barry and Delois V. Barry. She was the youngest of four children born to this union. She departed this life for life eternal April 5, 2009. Char graduated from Puyallup High School in 1987 and attended Highline Community College. She enjoyed baking, exercising, social events, getting her hair done, hot weather and "power shopping." She was employed with the Federal Government for 21 years, starting in the Passport Division. At the time of her death, she was a Paralegal Specialist within the Social Security Administration. Char was elected Secretary for the Celia Gardens Homeowners Association. She took pride in doing a job well and was consciously passing that spirit onto the younger generation. Her young nephews, Jaydion and Rayshawn loved to listen as Char read books to them and played games. Even as her health was fading, Aunt Char could not refuse to read short stories to them. As her family, we witnessed her strength as she fought against breast cancer. Char was a private person, but as this disease advanced, she wanted to encourage individuals to act upon taking care of their health concerns early, especially women with breast cancer. She leaves to celebrate her life, her mother, Mrs. Delois V. Barry, one brother, Dennis (Delores) Barry; two sisters, Grace (John) Laster and Denise (Earl) Logan, all of Washington; three Aunts, Nettie Dunn, Bessie Mae Shorter, both of MS and Louise Green of CA; three uncles, Willie Berry of TN, Claude Berry of CA and William Berry of MS; three nieces, Tawnie Martin of TX, Kirsten Logan and Briana Barry; four nephews, Anthony Barry, Justin Laster, Jaydion Laster and Rayshawn Laster; three cousins, Billy Ray Ingram; George Berry Jr. and Elaine Berry, all of Washington and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 18, at 11:00 am at the Greater Christ Temple Church in Tacoma. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Park will follow. Arrangements by Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home, 253-472-3353.
