Obituary of Christopher Louis Lyman

Christopher Louis Lyman - May 14, 1954 - February 15, 2017 Chris was born in Port Angeles, Washington to Marie Sargent and was adopted by Luther and Esther Lyman, who were friends of Marie. Marie remained a part of his life until he was about 3 years old. His early years were spent in Port Angeles, but there were many family gatherings at Lone Rock, near Seabeck, Washington at the home of his cousins, Mary, Jimmy and Martha Lyman. This was one of his favorite places, even as an adult. Chris was in the Army from January 1972 until January 1975. He worked as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until an on-the-job accident disabled him. He worked with his cousins, Jim and Davienne Lyman, in their tile and marble business during the late 80's early 90's. He went back to Port Angeles for a time where he went to Peninsula College and graduated with a degree in Associate of Applied Science in 1996. He married and had a daughter, Netania Faith in 1997. A few years later he moved to Tacoma and worked as a transit and a school bus driver for special needs kids, and then became a live-in caregiver for his friend Bill Rose until his death in February of this year. Chris loved the outdoors, taking photos and spending time with his daughter and friends. He was always willing to help others whether it was fixing/building a computer, gardening, repairing things, even loaning money to people in need. Often, he never collected on a loan. He loved doting on Netania and spending time with her. He used to tell me about their times together. We will miss you, Chris, more than you know and you were loved far more than you realized. I specifically remember, when you were working with Jim and me, how you would walk in every morning eating an ice cream cone from the deli a few doors away. You got our daughter, Niela, hooked on licorice ice cream! You loved coming to the farm for the 4th of July and Thanksgiving or Christmas. You enjoyed watching your friend, Terry Werner, race his Quad. Terry says: I met and became friends with Chris 15 years ago when he came to my mom's house to work on her computer. It always amazed me how much he knew about computers and loved to help, with patience, those who did not, like me. Chris and I spent a lot of time together over the years. He was either helping me with some chore or I was helping him. For over 20 years I have had a one-man yard care business, so when I would crash and burn while flat-track racing my quad, he would come and either help or have to do everything; in return, I did his yard work and helped with Bill. Chris was also my buddy who enjoyed coming to my races to take pictures &/or videos of the event. I will miss You - YOUR FRIEND TERRY!!! Your cousin, Martha "Murph" Lyman-Gagnon remembers being closest to you as a kid because you were the same age. "Chris was my cousin and 4 months older than me. He was an only child, and back in 1954 that was unusual. Most summers when I was pretty young I either went up to Port Angeles for a few days, or Chris came to Seabeck. We lost contact in our 20's and I was really glad that Davienne has maintained a close friendship with him. I've always thought of Chris as a lonely guy who just wanted to be loved and maybe didn't know that he was."
