Obituary of Jack Shaughnessy
Jack was born October 6, 1925, in Tacoma, WA to Ambrose and Anna LaPore Shaughnessy. He was drafted in to the armed service at the beginning of his senior year. He served three years in the US Navy as an Aviation Fire Control Third Class Bombsight Specialist.
Upon discharge from the Navy in 1946, he received his high school diploma from Lincoln High School. He continued his education at College of Puget Sound where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology minoring in German. His career as a Geologist took him and his family on many adventures including living in WY, UT, CO, NM, AK, and TX.
He was devoted to his family. He often recounted the first time he saw Shirley at the skating rink. He married "that young lady" and has been chasing her ever since. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and often bragged of their accomplishments.
His love for flying provided 59 years of joy and entertainment as a private pilot. He also became an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic. Over the years, he owned five airplanes including a Piper J-3 Cub, two Taylorcraft's, a Piper Tripacer which he converted to a Pacer, and Bellanca Super Viking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine Peterson. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley; son Kurt and his wife Tamara, daughter Kim Allan and her husband Jim; son Kelly and his wife Rachelle; grandchildren Connor, Ashley, Amber, Bronson, Tyren, and Daniel; and his great grandchildren Owen, Ryan and Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial contribution to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or American Lung Association
