Obituary of Virginia Tizekker Young

Virginia Dawn Tizekker Young, age 84, went to be with the Lord on November 6, 2015. She was born May 23, 1931 to John and Irene (Vargo) Tizekker in Cleveland, Ohio and was the oldest of three siblings. The family moved to Pennsylvania but finally settled into Medford, Oregon where Virginia graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1949. She married William Edward Young in 1952, and together they raised two sons in the Seattle area where her husband, Bill, worked as a Boeing engineer. After retirement in 1986, the couple moved back to their childhood hometown of Medford, Oregon where they took care of Virginia's mother and had many happy years reuniting with friends and hosting family. As a young adult she worked for her aunt as a maid, picked in the local pear fields and later became a secretary for the Teamsters Union. After marriage and a move to Seattle she took her responsibility as mother seriously, staying home to care for her two sons. She enjoyed being the neighborhood "driver" for the other families on 20th avenue where their first home was and kept an open house to one and all. You could always hear her saying "there's no excuse for being dirty even if you weren't well off". To find this home you only had to say "look for the purple house!" She loved St. Paul's of Shorewood Lutheran Church and kept her hope in the Lord at all times (her favorite verse is Isaiah 40: 27-31). Later the family moved across the Kent valley about the time the boys became teenagers to settle into Fairwood. The boys' friends quite often would be found over at the Young's house late into the night playing pool and being fed ample snacks by their second "mom" (even when the boys were not around). Virginia and Bill loved to camp in their RV's and spent many years travelling with their boys all over the northwestern states to various events. These trips always had a purpose which included anything from salmon fishing, digging razor clams, crabbing on the Washington coast, duck hunting in Oregon or trout fishing plus picking huckleberries around Mt. St. Helen's. Their annual Memorial Day trip to eastern Washington to get out of the Seattle rain was a favorite. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and was blessed with seven grandchildren who she loved to spoil with lots of love and presents whenever possible. Virginia loved to shop, so to have an ever growing family to buy gifts for made her very happy. The expanding family also provided great opportunities for her to use her favorite Polaroid camera. Virginia loved her family and will be missed. Virginia is survived by her husband William E. Young of Auburn, WA; brother James Tizekker (Iverne "Ivy") of Vancouver, WA; sister Margaret "Cookie" D'Amato of Las Vegas, NV; son William W. Young (Karen) of Federal Way, WA; son John Young (Diedre) of Pine Bluff, AR; grandchildren Jennie (Gary), Emily (deceased), Jesse, Daniel, Liz (Scott), David, and Rebekah; great granddaughter Evelyn; and many beloved nieces, nephews and their respective children. A memorial service will be held at Piper Morley Funeral Home in Tacoma, WA on Monday November 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm. An additional grave side service will be held at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford, OR on Wednesday November 18th at 1:00 pm.
