Larry is my friend, he taught me how to become a true Pediatrician; accept parents concerns, be flexible, stay true to the facts and be humble. What I really learned from Larry is how to accept change, enjoy life, and above all to take care of our family. Vicky and I enjoyed numerous times with kids, baseball games and learning orchid care. All of this was Larry's way to teach me patience. We miss Larry, our friend.

From the start of my Pediatrics career Larry was and still is my mentor and attending professor. He taught me how to be a compassionate physician, to address the parents concerns but what he really taught me is how to change, to allow life to flow smoothly and always stay humble. It has been my pleasure to know Larry and his family and I'll surely miss him.
Your friend

God put Larry an I together on a wonderful prison ministry called Kairos Kairos is Greek for "in Gods time". Larry went home in God's time. While Larry was here he did God's work, blessing and touching many including me. Larry was a teacher and a student up until the day God said welcome home good and faithful servant. He and I studied Exodus this fall and winter at Bible Study Fellowship in Tacoma on Monday nights. Being with Larry was always a joy. In the prison ministry it was amazing to see the inmates drawn to Larry, intrigued by his godly wisdomand his gentle caring listening nature. Larry was a gift from God go is who got to spend time with him. Thank you God!

Dr. Stayton was an amazing and wonderful man. As a rebellious and irresponsible teenager, I was the recipient of his patience, kindness, and grace. He was an amazing gardener, and while he and Mrs. Stayton were on vacation, I was responsible for watering their many beautiful houseplants. I completely forgot about the orchids in their garage! I was horrified when I realized that I had killed his beautiful flowers. He and Mrs. Stayton could have rightfully been furious at me-- but all they showed me was mercy, love, forgiveness, and amazing grace. I saw Jesus in him, and I know that Jesus has greeted him in heaven with, "Well done, good and faithful servant." I am one of the many people who has been touched by his kindness, and I too will miss him.

I remember meeting Carol and Larry on a train in Germany in the 1970s. My guess is that it was the Berlin Duty Train. Yes, it is the Lord who deeply connected us with Carol and Larry and their daughters, Louise and Liz, and we thank the Lord Jesus that we will have a glorious eternity to share! Larry was Charlie's sponsor when we moved to Ft. Lewis in 1980, and his wisdom was a great help to Charlie with housing, and to me in warning of "expectations" that might be made of me by spouses in the department! I just smile when I think of Larry! He had a wonderful smile. Oh we will miss him! His and Carol's hostessing is the most elegant, gracious, delicious, magnificent we have ever enjoyed! They honored the Lord in their commitment to each other. Their making a home for a special young lady whom we have known since she was 8 revealed in action their love of Jesus--and their great care and concern for this young lady. I cannot imagine our lives without the big part Carol and Larry contributed. Many rich memories.

It is truly a blessing to have got to know Larry during my time with Kairos. His loving manner, friendly attitude and brotherly nature were all indications of a life ready for Christian service in-spite of earthly shortcomings. This man's life, as it impacts mine, is a powerful example of how to run the race and win.
