I was delighted to have Father John serve with me as a seminarian-intern from St. Vladimir's Seminary in 1993 at Saints Peter and Paul Church, Jersey City, NJ.
He was particularly impressed at an annual parish meeting, when the parish was challenged by an outrageous remark from a woman among the crowd. Everyone at some endured her confrontational demeanor. Knowing the woman, I seized the opportunityto respond, "(Name)....we will take that under consideration." She quietly sat down; the faithful were reassured of tranquility, and Father John was quite humored about the whole thing. and joyfully respond, "This is pastoral theology, 401". Over the years we often remembered the whole thing.
He enjoyed the parish and we enjoyed him.
What a loss for the Church and his family. If I could only call him again and hear his joy and learn from him.
