Obituary of George John Weinberger

George John Weinberger was born December 27, 1924 in Tacoma, WA. He passed away November 14, 2014, six weeks before his 90th birthday. During WWII he was a nose gunner on a B-24 Bomber, stationed in England where he flew 26 missions over Germany. On December 19, 1944 he became a member of the "Caterpillar Club" for parachuting out when his plane was shot down during the Battle of the Bulge. Later he became a glassblower and electrician (IBEW) and did most of the neon work in the Tacoma area. His most notable work is the cross at the top of St Joseph Hospital. He was also an avid private pilot, which took him on numerous trips across the US, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. He was one of the founders and was the first president of the Pierce County Chapter of the Washington Pilots Association. George was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Francis Louise (Marsh) Weinberger; his parents Andrew and Barbara (Eckroth) Weinberger; brother William Weinberger; sister Magdalena (Weinberger) Beckwith. He leaves behind his daughter Gayle L. (Harry) Lively; granddaughter Jacquelyn R. (Casey) Dale; great-grandson Quinton P. Dale; his loving companion of 9 years, Dorothy Coffer; brothers Joseph and Richard Weinberger; sisters Lois Jackson and Lorretta Fatheringham; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
