Obituary of Clyde L. Lackey
Clyde Leslie Lackey died in Lakewood, Washington on September 15, 2013. Clyde was born August 22,
1928 to John Noel Lackey and Mary Blanche Litake rin Lawsonville, Stokes County,North Carolina. He
was preceded in death by his father,mother, and brothers Gordon and Robert. He is survived by
Dorothy Ray Lackey, his wife of 58 years, of Lakewood Washington; and daughter Leslie Lackey Whyte
(Steve) and grandson Matthew Leslie Whyte of Mercer Island, Washington.
Clyde served in the US Air Force for 20 years,retiring as a senior master sergeantin 1967. Upon his
retirement from the Air Force he was employed at Boeing as an Instructor Flight Engineer for another 26
years,retiring in 1994. His duties in the Air Force and at Boeing always involved airplanes. He held an
FAA license as an airplane airframe and powerplant mechanic, a flight engineer's license for
reciprocating and turbo powered airplanes, and a multi‐engine commercial instrument pilot rating.
Clyde was respected by all who worked with him for his professionalism, knowledge, and high ethical
standards.
Clyde was a long‐time member of the First Baptist Church of Lakewood, a life time member of Masonic
Grand Lodge Genesis No. 305, and Valley of Tacoma Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Tacoma
Elks #174, American Legion, and AMVETS.
Clyde lived a good life working at a job he enjoyed. Blessed with good health, a loving family and many
good friends, he departs this life with no regrets.
Services will be held in North Carolina at 2:00 p.m. on September 28 at Snow Creek Baptist Church, with
full military honors. Local arrangements are being provided by Colonial Funeral Home of Sandy Ridge,
NC. Donations may be made in Clyde's name to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
