Not everyone can say that his brother's step-in-laws are his friends. I can. When Margaret married Richard Walkup, both of them were returning from difficult moments ... and found that as husband and wife, they could bring great happiness to one another. A welcomed side effect that the love and warmth they shared with all who knew them ... including me, the older brother of Margaret's son-in-law Andrew, Nancy's husband. Talk about feeling welcomed when I visited them out on the west coast. Our ferry boat ride to Canada and the marvelous gardens there has remained a highlight in my memory. I often refer to that visit in my sermons and homilies ... a reflection of just how much beauty God can put into a person's life if you but be open to the invitation to come and enjoy. I did have to smile when, for many years, each letter I received from Dick and Margaret contained a small packet of wooden dental pics. I had simply commented at how convenient they were when I caught Dick using them after one of our meals together. God grant eternal rest to Dick, now that his earthly life has ended. May our paths meet again before the throne of God where all goodness will be sung, all joy will dance and all beauty will find an everlasting home.

Dick was so good to and for Margaret in they're time together. Whenever my family would be down for a visit Dick was always concerned he couldn't do enough to make the stay a pleasure. A kinder person I have not met. RIP Dick.
