Obituary of Edith A. Land

Edith Ann Land, 90, passed away July 3, 2013 at her home in Tacoma, WA. She was born January 13, 1923 in Glenham, SD to Edward and Elizabeth (Becht) Lehnert as one of 13 children. Only two years old when her mother died, she was raised by her sisters on the Lehnert South Dakota farm. During the end of her life she was very specific about her wish to be buried near her older sisters. Edith graduated from Glenham High School in 1939 and moved to Tacoma in 1940. She met her future husband, Orien (Del) Land, while working at a local sandwich shop. They married on June 9, 1946 and raised eight children together. An avid reader, Grandma will forever be remembered for her intelligence, wit, and love of books. She was outspoken, kind, and always there when family needed a helping hand. Despite her discomfort, she was teasing and cracking jokes until the day we lost her. She was preceded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, and husband Del. She is survived by all eight of her children, Jim (Patty) Land, Duane (Linda) Land, Mary (Ray) Nelson, Melodie (Dale) Robinson, Nancy Edvalds, Marvin (Michaelanne) Land, Kathy (Paul) Notdvedt, and Jon Land. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 10th at 11:00 am (Rosary at 10:30) at Visitation Catholic Church (58th and Warner), followed by a reception. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma @ 1:30 pm. Arrangements by Piper Morley with Oakwood Hill 253-472-3353
