Obituary of Patrick Wyley Henry

Patrick Wyley Henry, a member of the Puyallup Tribe, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 23 at age 52. Born and raised in Tacoma, Patrick honorably served his country for six years in the United States Marine Corps. Patrick firmly believed in education and attended Oregon State University, where he studied journalism and Native American studies. For over a decade, he served his tribe, primarily as founder, journalist and editor of the Puyallup Tribal News. In his time at the Tribal News, Patrick shared in an award that rated the newspaper second best for national monthly tribal newspapers. A member of the Native Americans Journalists Association, he had an eye for photography and was a talented illustrator. Patrick also served his tribe on a variety of committees, most recently as a member of the Puyallup Tribal Veterans Committee. Patrick was a kind, gentle man who was always quick to share a story. He was an avid chess player and he loved watching local sports, reading, writing, photography, drawing, attending powwows, listening to classic rock and watching cartoons. Patrick is preceded in death by brother Kevin Henry and mother Alice Marie Henry. He is survived by father Woodworth Henry, sisters Inez and Melissa and six nieces and nephews. The family has scheduled a viewing Wednesday evening, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Piper Morely Funeral Home with the funeral at the Puyallup Tribal Community Center at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
