Obituary of Bill Louis Evans

Bill Louis Evans (Socrates Louis Evans) was born on December 29, 1924 in Tacoma Washington. He died May 5, 2013 in Tacoma Washington (Orthodox Easter Day). He was preceded in death by his parents Louis Evans (Lazaros Evangelou) and Frances Evans (Fotini Anesti Evangelou) and brothers, Richard L. Evans, Anestis L. Evans, and Ernest L. Evans. He attended Oakland Elementary School, Jason Lee Junior High, Roy Junior High, and Stadium High School. He was drafted into the US Army in September 1943 and was honorably discharged in January 1946. He served in the XXIV Corps, which participated in the Battle of Okinawa WWII and the occupation of Seoul Korea. He was a baker and inherited the management and eventual co-ownership of Evans Bakery in Oakland Addition with his brother Ernest. He and his brother built a strong commercial bread business that lasted until 1998 when the bakery was sold. He played on a City League baseball team for "St. Nicks" and talked of hitting a ball out of the park at Peck Field to win the game with the bases loaded during the 1950's. He married Anna Marie Blankenship on September 26, 1959. They had one daughter, Katherine Marie. He was grateful to have seen his granddaughter Anna Marie grow into adulthood and attended all her events and school activities. He enjoyed horse racing and owned two race horses. He loved sports and had many friends that attended sports events with him. He was a member of Wild West Post # 91 VFW and a member of AMVETS. He also was a member of the Order of the AHEPA and Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Marie, daughter Katherine Marie Mason (Gregory), granddaughter Anna Marie Mason, sister Ethel Anthe Barbas, three nephews, one niece, and two grand nephews and two grand nieces. Funeral service to be held at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11AM. Donations can be made to Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, "Elevator Fund".
