Obituary of D. Jean Smith

Jean Smith, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister died peacefully in her home on February 20, 2013. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 where she served as Student Body Secretary alongside of the President, John W. Smith, who was to become her lifelong partner for 60 years. She was a graduate of Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing and held a degree in education from the University of Puget Sound. Not one to draw attention to her contributions, Jean was a devoted nurse in the Clover Park School District for most of her working life. In addition to being the President of the School Nurses Organization of Washington (SNOW), she was also honored by her peers as the 1980 School Nurse of the Year. She loved all that life had to offer and her passions included gardening, nature, and traveling the globe with her husband. Always seeing the glass half-full, she was strong through many adversities, leaving many to observe that they didn't know how she did it. She is survived by her four children and their families, and two sisters. At her request there will not be a formal memorial service.
