Obituary of Florence Alberta Winder

Florence Alberta (Waggoner) Winder June 15, 1916 - October 13, 2009 Florence Winder was born and lived in Woodward, OK, until 1951 when her family moved to Tacoma. For 75 years she was married to Fred Winder, who preceded her in death. Her granddaughter, Shannon Winder, passed away in 2001. She is survived by one sister, Violet Schneider of Woodward, OK, one daughter, Kay Alsbury, two sons, Gar (Bev) and J.R., seven grandchildren, Jeff and John Alsbury, Lisa Jane Bakewell (Nigel), Shelley Winder Yost (John), Sonya Winder, Ami Strain (Eric), Brady Winder (Adrian), and seven great grandchildren, Aaron and Kolbe Bakewell, Caleb and Eli Yost, Jeremy, Dillon, and Aliya Strain. Her true calling in life was being a 'grandma' and a 'great-grandma', also known as 'g-g'. The family sincerely thanks Sylvia's Place for their loving kindness and care, where Florence resided during the past three years. Recalling Flo means memories of delicious roast beef dinners, homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls, along with homemade noodles. Delicious stews or barbecues on the patio also were feasted upon by family and friends at gatherings where Flo loved playing a mean game of pitch or pinochle. She had a good sense of humor, loved to tease Fred, and enjoyed playing with the grand and great grandchildren. Many winters were enjoyed by Flo, the snowbird, as she and Fred spent winters in southern California. At home, a big garden occupied their time, and Flo spent several summer days helping at her son's raspberry farm during harvest time. She was employed as a meat wrapper for many years and was a member of the meat cutters' union. Flo's church friends and Pastor Gordon have been especially supportive over the years, and were appreciated by her. Services will be held October 21st at 2:00 PM at the Fellowship Christian Church, 860 E. 38th, Tacoma, WA 98404. Memorial donations may be made to this church where Florence was an active life-long member.
