Obituary of Bernard Thomas Stone

Bernard Thomas Stone formally of Tacoma, passed away in Hanford, California on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at a Hanford hospital at the age of 80. Bernie was born in Ontario, Canada to Bernard and Florence Stone. Bernie served in the Canadian Army, while he was training with the US Army at Ft. Lewis, WA he met the love of his life, Alexandrina (Lena). Bernie and Lena were married on August 30, 1954 in Ontario where they lived until moving to Tacoma, WA where they raised their 7 children and Bernie worked as a Warehouse Foreman for Harkness Furniture for 30 years. Bernie was involved in charities throughout his life and was very active with the Knights of Columbus in Tacoma. Bernie and Lena moved to Hanford, CA in 1994. Bernie lived at The Remington, a retirement home where he had many friends and was very active until his death. Bernie is survived by his 5 daughters: Carol Torres and her husband Rick Foster of Tacoma, WA, Patty & Harry O'Connor of Riverton, WY, Sandy & Ken Allen of Chatteroy, WA, Becky & Jack Patterson of Tulare, CA and Mary & Danny Cerda of Lemoore, CA, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his brother Ted Stone, his sister Madeline and her husband Dale LeSouder, sister-in-law Rita Stone and brother-in-law Bill Munro all of Stratford, Ontario. He was preceded in death by his wife Lena, 2 children: Michael Stone & Catherine Ryan, grandson Ian O'Connor, his brother Frank Stone, sister Barbara Munro and sister-in-law Val Stone. Funeral Service will be Friday, October 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home, 5436 South Puget Sound Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98409-4311, 253-472-3353. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma, WA.
