Obituary of Vivian Ann Soland

Vivian Ann (Helm) Soland Dedicated wife, special mother of five, grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of three, Vivian went to her eternal home April 28th, 2009. Vivian, born November 9th, 1925, was the youngest child of Joseph J. Helm and Laura M. (Cyr) Helm of Red Lake Falls, MN. In 1943,at the age of 18, she traveled from Minnesota to California (by herself on the train!), where she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter". While in Pasadena,CA she met her future husband, Leon (Lee) Soland at the local roller rink. They married April 21st, 1946 in Red Lake Falls, MN. From there they followed Lee's Mother and brother to Tacoma, WA. They resided in Lakewood,WA the rest of their lives. Vivian cherished her role as a mother, as well as a piano teacher, seamstress, business owner and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was devoted to her Catholic faith. Vivian affirmed until the end her on-going trust and confession of faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, (Lee), and her siblings, Joseph (Cy), Wilbur, Ione, Ralph, and Lois. Vivian is survived by her children Barbara, Brian (JoAnn), Beverly (Russ), Bonnie, and Bruce (Lori) as well as her two special friends and sisters-in-law, Eileen Kelly and Dorothy Soland. Vivian had a deep affection for all her nieces and nephews and every member of her extended family. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, May 11th at 11:00 am at St. Frances Cabrini Church, Lakewood, WA. If you would like to honor Vivian, we suggest instead of flowers donations be made to the Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care in University Place, WA.
