Obituary of Alfred V. Perella

Alfred V. Perella, 81, of Graham, WA passed away on March 20, 2012. He was born on Aug. 2, 1930 in Pittsburg, PA. Alfred is survived by his loving family, Gladys, his wife of 61 years, daughter Maria and her husband Steve, two grandsons and their spouses, Dan and Audrey, Drew and Blair. He also leaves his two great grandchildren, his most precious angels, Camden and Elise. Residing out of state, his two brothers, Rudy and Carmine and his only sister Olga and several in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews. Al joined the Army in 1948 & remained in the military for about 7 years. He began in the infantry and transferred into the Medical Corp of Special Forces. Most of his service was at Fort Lewis with a tour in Germany. He met his beloved wife in Oct. 1949. They eloped on May 10, 1950 after a short engagement of only a half day. After military discharge, Al attended and successfully completed vocational training to become a carpenter. In amongst the pace of life, Al and Gladys welcomed their son, Tony and daughter Maria. His progression in the construction industry began as a carpenter & ended as a business owner. He began a partner in General Builders and after a period of time, bought out his partner. As a contractor, he left his mark all over western Washington. With pride, hard work and relentless working hours, both Al & Gladys were able to retire at the young age of 50. Retirement gave him the opportunity to enjoy his family and also relax and enjoy the infinite sights at their home on the rim. He was a lifelong member of the Tacoma Sportsman Club, active in target shooting when health and desire allowed. He enjoyed games of Cribbage and poker with family. Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Carmine and Maria, beloved son, Tony, brothers, Joseph, Vincent (Jim) and Gene. The family suggests donations be made to a favorite charity of your choosing. Your struggle and pain have ended. Rest in peace Papa Bear.
