One of the fondest memories that I have with Grandpa is that he would always jokingly tell me, "Eddie you and I are two Southern Boys surrounded by a bunch of Yankees." I felt a special bond with him, not so much because of the comment, but because we had both served our country, moved away from our families, and relocated to WA State to start new families. At times I do miss being in GA, but Grandpa always made me feel better because he knew from his own personal experience of being away from other family members.
