Obituary of Colleen Kay Mickelson
Colleen Kay Pope-Gannett-Mickelson was born on July 14th, 1952 in Akron, Iowa, and died on June 3rd, 2008 in Tacoma, Washington. She was a proud Native American who lived most of her life in Tacoma, Washington from age 4. She also live in Maryland for 2 years, just outside of Washington D.C., in the 70's. For the past 20+ years she had lived in Midland where she was the manager for Harvard View Mobile Home Park for 18 years. Colleen has 1 son, Anthony Gannett of the U.S. Navy (wife Sharon of Milton), 1 daughter, Harmony Haygood (husband Eric) and 1 granddaughter, Lillyan Anmorata Haygood of Tacoma, WA. Colleen went to Wilson High School and also attended Truman, Geiger and Pt. Defiance schools. She was very active in music and sports. She loved the Washington and Oregon coasts, boating, camping, fishing, and was raised in Carling Boat Club. She loved to read, sing and cook, and will always be remembered for her 'smoked salmon' and 'baked beans'. She was preceded in death by her mother Kathleen (Manning) Pope and father Willian C. Pope of Gig Harbor, brother Robert L. Pope, a lieutenant with the Tacoma Fire Department. She has a brother, James Pope, of Mount Lake Terrace, a brother, David Pope, of Santa Barbara, CA, sister-in-law Carol S. Pope, nephew Steven Pope (wife Mindi), niece April Eaton, and 2 great-nieces, Katie and Emily, all of Tacoma, and many friends!! So from Colleen: 'Stay Safe'! Peace and Love. No More Pain. I will miss you all! Going to be with the Great Spirit. Colleen has requested that there be no traditonal funeral service, but rather a party held in celebration of her life. This party will take place on Saturday, June 21st between 2pm and 5pm at daughter Harmony's house, 253-320-9184. Call if you need any info!
