Obituary of Anthony P. Jewell

Anthony was born in the heart of London, spending his younger years during World War II in underground shelters. In his youth, through the YMCA, he worked on country farms. Returning to London, he worked as a photographer's helper on Fleet Street. In December of 1950, at the age of seventeen, Tony joined the Royal Army Service Corps. He was a parachutist with the Special Air Service (SAS) for five years. A parachute accident brought about a transfer to transport management. As a Warrant Officer Quarter Master he was assigned to the Ministry of Defense. Jim also served as an instructor to the Australian Army and loved the locality. After twenty three years of Army service, he migrated to Australia with his children Diane, Allan, Karen, David, Michael, Chris and Janice (now deceased). Sometime later a travel bug got hold of him and Jim decided to visit some military friends in the USA and Canada. While visiting Tacoma Jim met and married Dawn, his wife of twenty nine years. In 1985, they decided to try apartment management, as a team. They did new construction, renovation and rent-ups until their retirement in 1996. Jim loved to travel in their trailer down the Pacific Coast Highway to Mexico, always making a detour to Reno. After they sold the trailer Dawn and Jim still enjoyed a daily hunt for bargains at estate and yard sales. Locally he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dawn; step children Don, Dann and Devan; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial gathering will take place beginning at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 19th, at the family home, 6534 Fawcett Ave, Tacoma.
